Shawn DeBaar - Founder at The DeBaar Group

Shawn DeBaar, founder of The DeBaar Group, is dedicated to empowering nonprofit and ministry leaders to lead with health, resilience, and purpose. With over 15 years of experience in nonprofit leadership—including more than a decade with The Salvation Army—Shawn has seen firsthand how grounded, healthy leadership transforms individuals, organizations, and communities. As the Executive Director of a Christian nonprofit in Fort Wayne, IN, he draws from both academic and practical experience, holding a Bachelor of Ministry from Nazarene Bible College and a Master’s in Biblical Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary.

Trained in trauma-informed coaching, Shawn offers tailored coaching and consulting that help leaders navigate complexity, prevent burnout, and align their leadership with their faith and mission. Through The DeBaar Group, he equips leaders to build resilient teams, clarify their vision, and lead with integrity and impact—believing that when leaders are well, their organizations flourish.

Presentation Information:

Title: Trauma & Christian Leadership: Understanding, Impact, and Pathways to Healing

Summary:  This interactive training is created for ministry and nonprofit leaders who shoulder the dual responsibilities of guiding their organizations and caring for others, often while managing their own experiences of personal or communal trauma. Many leaders carry unseen burdens that shape how they respond, relate, and lead. Through the integration of trauma-informed principles and biblical truth, this session offers both insight and restoration, helping leaders recognize the effects of trauma within themselves and their teams while discovering practical, faith-rooted pathways toward healing, resilience, and renewed clarity in leadership.
